’ECTOGRAM swell giddily into the interstellar realms of muscular, multi-layered
psychedelic rock and avant-dreampop. Quirkily engaging, the eight songs
flicker brightly with lysergic effects and Ann Matthews' breathless
stream of consciousness lyrics.’ PLAN B magazine
While still firmly rooted in the Krautrock and post-punk spirit that is their hallmark, ECTOGRAM keep pushing their albums into new places, challenging themselves and creating a treat for us in the process. It is easy to get lost in this album for hours; the eight songs that make up this album are meticulous in terms of sonic texture and each listening experience is full of new surprises. Not only that but Fluff on a Faraway Hill is fun too. BRAINWASHED.COM
Welsh noise trio ECTOGRAM are proud to announce the release of their new album – Fluff On A Faraway Hill - Recorded in Southern Germany by legendary Krautrock producer and founding member of FAUST - Hans Ioachim Irmler.
ECTOGRAM have been cultivating a relationship with Irmler for more than ten years and the eight tracks on this album represent a week spent working together last Summer at Irmler’s Klangbad studios on the banks of the Danube.
As a producer Irmler has developed a unique style of sound characterized by warmth and a strong sense of space whilst ECTOGRAM's music incorporates all the gripping elements of psychedelic rock.
The resulting album Fluff On A Faraway Hill travels through the same ragged mountainous terrain My Bloody Valentine would call home with a drumbeat that placidly pulsates through a dense web of guitar sounds and voice.
It is exactly that intricately layered sound which makes ECTOGRAM so very special.
The album comfortably explores the seemingly borderless territory of ECTOGRAM'S music.
The songs are constantly evolving, thereby naturally unleashing a stream of associations in the listener. The female voice, recorded on multiple tracks, drowns in delay and flange.
Yet despite their passion for musical free-wheeling, ECTOGRAM never ceases to honour classic songwriting, which provides a solid framework to the otherwise organic sessions. Timeless stuff.
The launch gig for the album will take place at the suitably extreme and unusual Bodo Music Festival in Norway held within the Arctic circle ! .
